Bird Rescue

Home About Us What We Breed Baby Birds Adult Birds Food & Feeding Photo Gallery WANTED! Bird Rescue Special Orders

I have been asked if we do bird rescue or if we would take in a troubled bird.  Though we do not advertise it,  we will not refuse to take in any bird UNLESS it has a communicable illness.  Finches, Parakeets Cockatiels, Love Birds, Conures, Cockatoos, Amazons, Greys, Eclectus, Macaws.  It does not matter how small or large, if they pluck or scream, bite or attack.

That being said this is what happens:  The bird will be quarantined for a period of time.  This does not mean we shut it in a room with no attention, it simply means that it will be kept away from our other rescues until it has been evaluated.  Once we have evaluated the bird for health and mental issues, we determine how best to help the bird.  Does it need behavior modification?  Does it need medical assistance?  Or maybe it just needs more human socialization.  Depending on our capacity, the bird will get the help it needs here in our home or if it needs more one on one help, it will be placed in an experienced "foster" home.

Our goal is to get the bird in the best possible physical and mental health and eventually place it up for adoption into a forever home with a new loving family.  We evaluate all adoptive applicants as well as perform in-home checks.  We also maintain follow-up visits and provide informational help to the new birdie moms and dads.  In addition, we also require that the bird be returned to us if the new family can no longer keep their new bird.

In a few cases, some birds will never be suited to living in a pet situation.  The best that we can do for these birds is to provide them with the care they need and let them live their lives out with us without fear of being passed from home to home.  If they get along with other birds, they can be placed in a community aviary with other birds of their type, where they can enjoy the company of other birds.  We do not believe in forcing every bird into a pet situation where it will spend its life stuck in a cage all day.

ADOPTION FEES:

We do charge an adoption fee on ALL birds.  (Varies by species and individual bird)  This not only helps us ensure the bird is getting a good responsible home, it also helps pay for the care of the bird while it was here as well as help us pay for the really needy birds in the future.

For those of you that say you can provide a great home but cannot afford an adoption fee, sorry.  If you cannot afford the adoption fee, you cannot afford the care and proper upkeep of one of our birds.  Birds are not cheap pets.  They require much of your time and interaction and a good amount of money to provide the proper cage, foods, treats, toys and veterinary care.
