Basic Simple Birdie Bread
1 package Jiffy cornbread mix 3 eggs with the shell 1/3 cup of milk
1 1/2 cup of mixed veggies 1/2 cup cheddar cheese 1 cup raisins or chopped dried fruit
Combine Jiffy cornbread mix, eggs with the shells and milk. Mix well. Add fresh or thawed frozen mixed veggies. Add raisins or chopped dried fruit and the cheese and mix well into the batter. Pour into an 8x8 pan and bake at 400 degrees or until golden brown. After cooling cut the bread into small squares. For storage, put unused squares in the freezer in freezer safe bags or containers and take out and thaw as needed.
Jazzy Birdie Bread
A little more work but well worth it!
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour or Oat Flour 1 1/2 cup Soy Flour 2 tablespoons Baking Powder
2/3 hulled millet 1 tsp Sea Salt 1 cup Cooked Rice 1/4 cup Corn Oil
12 oz Evaporated Milk 8 oz Plain Yogurt 8 oz Cottage Cheese
5 Small Jars of Baby Food (corn, bananas, yams, squash, spinach, carrots, apples or your birdie favorites)
1/2 cup of raisins, chopped dried fruit or chopped raw mixed nuts.
Combine dry ingredients and stir until blended. Add wet ingredients to dry and mix well. Batter will be lumpy. Pour into extra large baking pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Allow to cool and cut into small squares. For storage, put unused squares in the freezer in freezer safe bags or containers and take out and thaw as needed.
Basic 15 Bean, Rice & Barley Mix
1 package 15 bean soup mix (found in the Bean and Rice aisle at the grocery store)
1 cup raw Brown Rice 1 cup raw Barley 1 bag frozen corn
Soak beans overnight. Add Rice and Barley and rinse
with clean water. Cook (Simmer with water over mixture) for about 30
minutes or until done.
Drain water, add corn and serve. You can also add other veggies such as shredded
Carrot, Yams, Thawed frozen mixed veggies, Broccoli or any other favorite food
your birdie may love. For storage, put unused portion in the freezer in
freezer safe bags or containers and take out and thaw as needed.
Rice and Millet Mix
1 part cup cooked hulled millet 1 part cup white rice, cooked 1 part cup brown rice, cooked
Soak millet in water for 20 minutes prior to
cooking. Mix together with rice and serve warm. For storage,
put unused portion in the freezer in freezer safe bags or containers and take
out and thaw as needed.
Beans, Rice, Veggie and Fruit Mix
1/4 cup pinto beans
1/4 cup kidney beans
1/4 cup split peas
1/4 cup lentils
1/4 cup navy beans
1/4 cup garbanzo beans
1 cup cooked brown rice
1 cup cooked white rice
1 cup carrot (shredded)
1 cup yams (shredded)
1 cup frozen corn (thawed)
1/2 cup raisins or dried fruit
Soak beans overnight. Drain, rinse, refill pan with
water and cook for 30-40 minutes or until done. Drain.
Add carrots, yams, corn, raisins (or dried fruit) and rice. Blend together
and serve. For storage, put unused portion in the freezer in freezer safe
bags or containers and take out and thaw as needed.
3 cups cooked rice
1 lb. raisins
3 lb. dried fruits
2 cups raw chopped mixed nuts
Course chop all ingredients in blender or food processor. Roll into small balls. Cover and refrigerate.
Simple Popcorn Treat1 Tbl. melted margarine
1 tsp. evap. milk powder
1 tsp. wheatgrass powder
1 cup assorted dried fruit (Chopped)
Combine margarine wheatgrass powder and evap. milk powder. Drizzle over popcorn, tossing to coat. Add dried fruit and continue tossing. Store leftovers in air tight container.
